The Make America Sane Again Ride

The Make America Sane Again Ride

This Bike Party is going to be amazing. It's going to be the sanest ride you've ever seen. You won't even believe how sane it is.

Look at how insane this crooked car culture is. It's so insane, unbelievably insane. There are giant storms and droughts, traffic jams, oil wars, and people just keep driving everywhere. We have to get tough and we have to be strong, and we have to ask, "what in the hell is going on?"

So we're going to be very strong, and very tough so that we stop being insane. And this Bike Party is gonna be so huge in making us sane again.

I know even some of you very strong, very sane people are wondering, "how am I supposed to decorate my bike or myself based on this theme?" Well you're going to have to be smart and get tough and show the world what it looks like to be fighting climate change, and fighting insane politics.

What

Santa Cruz Bike Party is a mobile party for riders of all ages, experience levels, and types to meet, ride, and play together in the streets. Rides are 7-10 miles long with music and dance breaks along the way. Rides move at a relatively slow pace and no one is left behind. Each ride has a theme and riders are encouraged to wear costumes or decorate their bikes to fit the theme.

Where

SC Bike Party starts and ends outside the Bike Church at 703 Pacific Ave downtown. The route is not the same every time, but each month organizers will post the route online ahead of time in case anyone misses the start and wants to catch up.

When

Once per month, all year long. We meet at 7pm every second Friday of the month. Rides usually leave about 7:15 and last about 2 hours.

How

The atmosphere of the SC Bike Party is fun, friendly, welcoming, and safe. Our goal is to celebrate cycling and build community, not to cause conflict with car drivers. Please help us maintain a positive and safe atmosphere by keeping in mind the following guidelines:
– Stay to the Right / Stop at Lights – This is not Critical Mass. Please stay to the right on 2-lane roads, or in the right lane on larger roads.
– Ride Straight – Please help avoid crashes by riding predictably, without any sudden turns or stops.
– Don’t Hate – Please roll past any conflict that might present itself during the ride.
– Pack your Trash – Bike partiers aspire to leave party stops in better condition than we found them.
– Don’t Get Smashed – Riding while inebriated poses a danger to yourself and others. Don’t ruin the fun for everyone else by overdoing it.

Bring

Lights – Rides are at night, so let’s make sure to be visible.
Locks – No bikes have been stolen from the SC Bike Party, but during breaks better to be safe than sorry.
Layers – As we all know Santa Cruz evenings can get damp and chilly.
Water, snacks – Our stops are not always near stores, so best to bring what you need.
Tube, patch kit, pump, tools – The ride is unsupported; please come prepared.

Intermediate Wilder Ride

Ride hosted by Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz County. Riders with some off-road handling skills and moderately good fitness are welcome on this intermediate level ride. (Our monthly “Slow(er) Ride” is better suited for beginners.) The pace is determined by the riding level of those who show up. Most of the regulars are intermediate and very social. If the group is large, we may split into a fast and slow group. The route and total distance vary, but we typically do about 12 miles and around 1300 feet of climbing. Meet at 10 am at the park sign just north of the tunnel under Highway 1 (see map below). The best way to get to the meeting spot is to park in the Wilder Ranch parking lot, walk your bike through the Ranch area, past the barn, chickens and garden, ride under the highway using the tunnel and you should see the park sign by the cattle gate. These rides are hosted every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Saturday of the month at 10am. Check their website out for ride updates and more details (they will cancel due to weather).
